Both the Next Generation Indie Book Awards (NGIBA) and the National Indie Excellence Awards (NIEA) named Astral Genesis a “Finalist” in the category of “Graphic Novels”!
The new pair of awards bring the total number of honors bestowed upon the sci-fi/action-adventure tome to three! Astral Genesis won the Independent Press Award (IPA) earlier this month.

Pet Piranha Entertainment’s newest graphic novel, titled “Astral Evolution“, went to the printing press on Thursday, according to “Astral” creator/writer/producer and Pet Piranha company founder, Jay Magnum.
“Of course, we’re all very excited that ‘Astral Evolution‘ is now printing,” said Magnum, “This is the culmination of eighteen months of hard work, and everyone on the ‘Evolution’ project team should be extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished!”

“We’re extremely excited to be launching a campaign for the sequel book, ‘Evolution‘,” announced Pet Piranha founder and “Astral” creator, Jay Magnum, “I’d also like to remind folks that if they’re new to the series, they can get a copy of the first book, ‘Genesis,’ during the ‘Evolution‘ campaign, as well.”

This week, Jay Magnum announced that Pet Piranha Entertainment would add a set of variant covers to its upcoming sci-fi action sequel, “Astral Evolution“.
“I’m pleased to tell you that– in addition to Ariel Medel’s ‘Two Worlds’ cover design for ‘Evolution‘– we’ll also be adding limited-edition variant cover designs by Bill Walko and C.B. Zane!”
The new cover designs are first being revealed to Astral VIP fans through their subscriptions to “Astral Connections” and will subsequently be unveiled to the general public. The Bill Walko design is the first of the limited-edition variant cover designs to be displayed to the public– shown below, along with Ariel Medel’s original cover design:

On Sunday, Pet Piranha Entertainment announced that its flagship graphic novel, the 120-page, full-color, sci-fi/action-adventure, “Astral Genesis“, was complete in digital form.
“I’m excited to tell you that we’ve finished production on the Digital Edition,” stated company founder Jay Magnum, “I expect we’ll be able to begin delivery of electronic copies to Kickstarter backers and those who have pre-ordered very soon.”
Magnum also briefly discussed the printed edition of the books.
“It’s my goal to be able to approve the proofs for the print editions this coming week,” he explained, “If that’s the case then we can expect delivery of the printed books in a few months, which is the amount of time it will take our printer to actually print the copies and ship them to us here at Pet Piranha.”
Magnum then went on to thank all of those involved in the production of Astral Genesis.
“I’d like to thank our artists, Ariel Medel, Victor Ricardo Nava Corona, Ander Zarate, and Erick Arciniega, and the art-production and scripting teams at Chuck Sellner’s Visionary Comics, Michael Munshaw, Brian Augustyn, and Chrissy Flury, and our cover artists, Bill McKay, Bill Walko, Garth Graham, and Terry Parr for helping to make this possible,” said Magnum, “But most of all I’d like to thank all of our friends and fans who have encouraged us along the way. On the occasion of the first-day kickoff of the Collective Con event in Jacksonville, Florida, Pet Piranha Founder Jay Magnum further expounded on the future of the company’s “Astral” franchise of graphic novels:
“I’m pleased to announce that the three books currently in our production pipeline will comprise an epic trilogy of sci-fi, action-adventure stories!”
While helping Producer Lauren Lee take pre-orders for the first book in the newly-announced trilogy, Astral Genesis— due to be released in digital form within the next two weeks– Magnum also revealed the name of the trilogy-capping “threequel”:
“We’ve christened the third book ‘Astral Alliance‘,” declared Magnum, “It’s in the scripting stage right now, and I promise it’ll bring an exciting resolution to the events in Astral Genesis and Astral Evolution. Hold on to your asteroids!”

PET PIRANHA ENTERTAINMENT PROVIDES “GENESIS” UPDATE, TEASES SEQUEL!

On Sunday, Jay Magnum, founder of Pet Piranha Entertainment, provided an update on the release timetable for the company’s first original graphic novel, Astral Genesis.
“We’re wrapping-up the final step in the interior-page production process, the lettering,” asserted Magnum, “At the same time, we’re also finalizing the layouts for the bonus pages at the back of the book. After ‘Genesis‘ launches we’ll be able to focus 100% of our efforts on the sequel, ‘Astral Evolution’, which is already in the art production phase.”
When asked about the release date for the book, Magnum had this to say:
“We’re looking at about one more month to complete the digital edition, probably by late February or early March, with physical books becoming available around ten to twelve weeks after that.”

Kicking off the new year with a bang, Jay Magnum announced that the graphic novel script for the sequel book to Astral Genesis had been finished.
“The completed sequel script is the result of a close collaboration between co-writer Brian Augustyn and me,” explained Magnum, “As part of my commitment to readers and fans to keep these stories fresh, we’re taking the characters in some new, exciting, and unexpected directions!”

Speaking about the recently-completed “Astral Genesis Kickstarter Event“, Pet Piranha Entertainment founder, Jay Magnum, had this to say:
“Our Kickstarter campaign for the printing of ‘Astral Genesis‘ was a huge success! One hundred nine backers helped us raise over double our funding goal.”
Between September 19th and October 20th, 2017, the campaign raised a total of $4,075, based on a funding goal of $2,000.
“I’d like to thank each and every person who pledged and shared word of the campaign on social media. We couldn’t have done it without you!” Magnum added.

Pet Piranha Entertainment recently launched a campaign on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform to print copies of its new graphic novel, Astral Genesis. In less than one week, the sci-fi action adventure rocketed into high orbit, quickly amassing a substantial measure of its funding goal. Backers may pledge for a book and other Astral “swag” like stickers, magnets, trading cards, prints, and posters.
“We’re extremely pleased with how the campaign is doing so far,” declared Pet Piranha founder, Jay Magnum, “Thanks to our generous backers, the Astral Genesis Kickstarter Event is shaping up to be a huge success!”
Artwork for the 120-page graphic novel was produced through studio partner, Visionary Creative Services, managed by Chief Creative Officer, C. Edward Sellner. Illustrations for the book were created by Ariel Medel (Xena: Warrior Princess, John Carter: Warlord of Mars), with inks by Victor Ricardo Nava Corona, colors by Erick Arciniega and Ander Zarate, and lettering by Jacob Bascle.
“I really have to hand it to the art team,” remarked Magnum, “Ariel, Victor, Erick, and Ander did an awesome job! Astral Genesis is a beautiful book, thanks to the exceptional, top-quality artwork delivered by Visionary Creative Services!”

On Thursday, Jay Magnum of Pet Piranha Entertainment proclaimed that the recently-launched Astral Genesis Kickstarter Event had, indeed, “kicked ass.”
Speaking to friends and fans about the event, Magnum announced, “It’s only the third day, and we’re already over 75% funded! Wow! Thanks!”
Magnum later responded to a question about his expectations around the campaign’s performance, stating, “Yeah, it was awesome that we had so many backers jumping in so early to support the campaign. They really kicked ass! I’d like to take a minute to thank each and every one of them for their support!”

Sunday morning, Jay Magnum, founder of Pet Piranha Entertainment and creator of the “Astral” science-fiction franchise, reported that Ariel Medel, artist of John Carter: Warlord of Mars and Xena: Warrior Princess, had completed interior-page pencils for Astral Genesis, Pet Piranha’s epic 120-page sci-fi/action graphic novel.
Magnum was quick to congratulate Medel on his success, offering:
“Ariel is a magnificent artist, and we are extremely proud of him in his achievement of this fantastic milestone! We’ve always had the highest respect and admiration for Ariel and his totally-epic artwork!”
Adding to that, Magnum stated:

This Friday, Pet Piranha Entertainment released new promotional art for its upcoming sci-fi/action-adventure epic, Astral Genesis (see picture, below). The promo image was designed by Jay Magnum, with Ariel Medel’s artwork, inks by Victor Ricardo Nava Corona, and colors by Erick Arciniega. The promotional art was release simultaneously on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as Pet Piranha’s website.
Asked to comment on the content of the image– which raised much interest from the public– company founder, Jay Magnum, simply answered, “I’m fond of the classics, and ‘Astral Genesis‘ is putting its own, unique spin on that!”

On Sunday, Pet Piranha Entertainment unveiled a diverse line of promotional products for its upcoming sci-fi/action-adventure epic, Astral Genesis. The advance-issue merchandise includes such items as bookmarks, posters, and T-shirts.
“The ‘teaser’ posters are limited to five hundred copies,” company founder and “Astral” creator, Jay Magnum, told fans, “And I’ll be personally signing all of the promotional posters, myself.”
Pet Piranha Entertainment is planning a Kickstarter campaign this September to fund the graphic novel’s initial print run.
“I had a lot of fun making these promo items,” added Magnum, “They’re a great way for fans to show support for ‘Astral Genesis‘ ahead of the book’s launch and get some super-awesome stuff in the process!”

This Wednesday, Pet Piranha Entertainment announced that 91 pages of interior artwork had been penciled for the upcoming sci-fi/action-adventure epic, Astral Genesis, totaling over 75% of the graphic novel’s 120-page length.
Astral Genesis creator and Pet Piranha company founder Jay Magnum discussed the news with fans Wednesday afternoon, saying:

On Sunday, Pet Piranha Entertainment released a new 11″ x 17″ promotional poster design for Astral Genesis, the company’s upcoming sci-fi action-adventure graphic novel.
With a layout designed by Jay Magnum, pencils by Ariel Medel, inks by Juan Vlasco, and colors by Ander Zarate, the poster is the second issued by Pet Piranha, and the first full-promotional poster after the “teaser” poster that was released last December.

Late Sunday, Jay Magnum, Founder of Pet Piranha Entertainment, confirmed reports that he had completed a real, working alien language for the company’s upcoming graphic novel, Astral Genesis.
“Well, I wanted the world that these characters live in to be as real as possible,” affirmed Magnum, “So, yes, ‘Astral’ is a ‘real’ language in the sense that it has a true vocabulary and grammatical structure, and can be written, read– and even spoken!”
“I think fans of the series are going to appreciate all the hard work and effort that went into creating it,” he added, “We use the language sparingly in the graphic novel, to ensure it’s accessible to all readers… but I’ll be sure and throw in some awesome ‘easter eggs’ for those super-fans who are motivated to translate some of the Astral-language phrases. We’ll have an Astral-to-English key that’ll be posted on our website so anyone can learn ‘Astral’ if they want!”

HURRICANE MATTHEW PASSES BY JACKSONVILLE; PET PIRANHA OK

On the afternoon of Friday, October 7th, Hurricane Matthew, the strongest storm to reach Florida in over a decade, bore down on the city of Jacksonville, where Pet Piranha Entertainment is headquartered.
Fortunately, the majority of the city was spared any major damage, and Pet Piranha Headquarters— though suffering some minor debris strikes– came through the storm intact.
On Saturday, millions of Florida residents were still without power, including about 181,000 in Duval County, where Jacksonville is located. Utility crews continued to work throughout the day to restore as much of the infrastructure as possible.
When reached via telephone and asked about Pet Piranha, company founder Jay Magnum provided this update:
“Luckily, the storm didn’t tip the Piranha tank over, so entire school is still in there– I just counted. They’re all understandably a bit agitated, though.”
When asked if he could elaborate, Magnum replied:
“Well, I mean… You don’t want those things getting loose and swimming around the office– especially when they’re upset– do you? Trust me… that would not be good!”

PET PIRANHA SELECTS VISIONARY CREATIVE SERVICES LLC FOR “ASTRAL GENESIS” INTERIOR ART

Pet Piranha Entertainment has retained Visionary Creative Services LLC to produce the interior pages and provide pre-press services for Astral Genesis, the company’s upcoming science-fiction/action-adventure graphic novel. In total, one hundred twenty pages of original interior art will be created for the project.
Interior page pencils will be provided by Ariel Medel (Xena: Warrior Princess, John Carter: Warlord of Mars), who also designed the cover art. The pages will be inked by Victor Ricardo Nava. Colors will be supplied by Ander Zarate, who also contributed the colors for Mr. Medel’s cover designs. Lettering for the graphic novel will be furnished by Jacob Bascle.
Art Director, Michael Munshaw, will be coordinating interior-art activities for Visionary Comics. Jay Magnum will continue to manage the overall graphic novel project at Pet Piranha Entertainment. Lauren Lee will serve as Executive Producer.
Visionary Creative Services LLC, a creator-friendly studio, and the largest digital first-publisher in the comics market, was launched in 2006 by Chief Creative Officer, C. Edward Sellner.
“We had already been working with Mike and Ariel through Visionary on the character designs and covers,” explained Pet Piranha company founder, Jay Magnum, “They did a wonderful job for us on those projects so I’m excited we’ve been able to bring their proven talents to the interior-art phase, as well.”

Pet Piranha Entertainment announced this week that longtime DC writer and editor, Ivan M. Cohen, had completed work on the final-draft script for the company’s upcoming original graphic novel, Astral Genesis.

The new logo was a collaborative effort between company founder, Jay Magnum, and Jacob Bascle via Visionary Comics.

This Thursday, Pet Piranha Entertainment revealed that John Carter: Warlord of Mars artist, Ariel Medel, would be creating cover art for Astral Genesis, the company’s original graphic novel (OGN) project.
“Ariel did a wonderful job on our final character designs and model sheets for Astral Genesis,” explained Magnum, “So it just made good sense for us to secure his superb artistic talents for the cover art, as well.”

Jay Magnum, founder of Pet Piranha Entertainment, announced this Wednesday that Ivan M. Cohen, former creative executive and editor for DC Comics, would be authoring the script for Astral Genesis, the company’s upcoming in-house graphic novel.
As part of the leadership team at DC Comics Mr. Cohen managed a schedule of over sixty monthly series, personally editing several titles including an award-winning run of monthly Wonder Woman comic-book series.
More recently, Mr. Cohen has contributed his writing talents to such projects as Warner Bros. Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Beware the Batman animated series (and its corresponding comic-book counterpart at DC Comics).

Today, Pet Piranha Entertainment founder, Jay Magnum, spoke to fans in Jacksonville about the company’s upcoming original graphic novel (OGN) project, stating that the script was complete and editing was in progress.
“I’ve been polishing several of the scenes,” explained Magnum, “The script is solid but you also have to ensure that the pacing is good and so trimming a little here and there helps to streamline the flow and tighten the story.”
Magnum also described the editing process as a collaborative effort to perfect the script. “I’ll be working closely with our editor over the next few weeks to ensure that we’ve delivered the best script possible before production starts on the interior artwork,” he added.

DARREN VINCENZO ON-BOARD AS SCRIPT EDITOR FOR GRAPHIC NOVEL PROJECT

Pet Piranha Entertainment is pleased to have Darren Vincenzo joining the production team in the capacity of Editor for the upcoming original graphic novel (OGN) project.
Mr. Vincenzo has over twenty years of experience across the world of comics and graphic novels. A graduate of legendary Denny O’Neil’s Writing for the Comics class at the School of Visual Arts in New York, he was offered a position as a Production Artist at DC Comics. From there he moved into the DC Editorial Department helping shape the direction of Batman storylines from Knightfall to No Man’s Land, afterward pursuing a freelance writing, editing and art-directing career. He helped launch Avalanche Comics Entertainment in 2000 and found success in story development for comics and animation before beginning work as a talent manager for an independent comics studio in 2012.
“Darren brings a wealth of industry experience to this endeavor,” commented Pet Piranha founder Jay Magnum, “I have no doubt we’re in excellent hands.”

PET PIRANHA ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES NEW SCI-FI GRAPHIC NOVEL PROJECT

Pet Piranha Entertainment is pleased to announce a new full-color science-fiction graphic novel project with the working title, “Star Rise.” When complete, the graphic novel is estimated to be approximately 120 pages in length. Jay Magnum created the characters and story, and is writing the script himself.
Pet Piranha Entertainment will partner with a major comic-industry production company for editing, cover designs, layouts, and interior artwork. Publication is expected to follow shortly thereafter for a launch sometime in 2016, contingent upon production timelines and marketing considerations.
